Rosamund was the daughter of Cunimund, king of the Gepids, and wife of Alboin, king of the Lombards. She was born into a kingdom in crisis and war in which her father was killed and she was forced to drink from his skull. She seeks escape by plotting to have her husband assassinated. Many tragedies have been inspired by this story and this book contains Algernon Charles Swinburne’s enchanting interpretation. Swinburne (1837 – 1909) was a celebrated English poet and playwright, who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in every year from 1903 to 1907, and again in 1909. This work,originally published in 1899, is now being republished in a new edition with a brand new introductory biography of the author.
